What we must fight for

What we must fight for

Joshua 19:24-51

The tribe of Asher receives the fertile coastal plain as an inheritance, as Jacob prophesied (Genesis 49:20), saying, ‘There will be plenty of food.’ The tribe of Naphtali receives the fertile land west of the Lake of Galilee as an inheritance according to the prophecy of Moses (Deuteronomy 33:23). The tribe of Dan inherited the area inhabited by the strong Amorites and Philistines, but when they were pressured by the Amorites, they abandoned the land given by God and conquered Leshem (Laish) at all (Judges 1:34; Chapter 18). Finally, Joshua receives the land of the tribe of Ephraim, to which he belongs.

God remembers and rewards the faith of those who trust in His promises (49-50). God gave the land of Canaan as a gift to all the Israelites, but He especially gave the place they wanted to Joshua and Caleb, who had spied out the land of Canaan with faith. God does not allow the labor of faith to be in vain.

It is not the fight itself that matters, but who you fight (47). The tribe of Dan was unable to defeat their real enemies and instead trampled on innocent targets by turning them into enemies. What we must fight against is not differences but wrongdoing, not our neighbors but sin, and not our brothers and sisters but the hatred within us. What do I fight with?

Dear God, help us trust You and fight against sin, falsehood, and violence.

사랑하는 하나님, 우리가 당신을 신뢰하고 죄와 거짓, 폭력에 맞서 싸울 수 있도록 도와주세요.
