Remaining lands, remaining missions
Joshua 13:1-14
When Joshua grew old and could no longer fight, God promised to personally drive out the remaining Canaanites. Joshua is finally commanded to distribute the land of Canaan by tribe. Meanwhile, there are still tribes to the east of the Jordan River who were not driven out. The tribe of Levi was not given land as an inheritance. Instead, the sacrifices the people offer to God become their inheritance.
God tells Joshua to distribute the land that has not yet been conquered (2-7). This contains a faithful promise that God will allow the unconquered areas before Israel to be conquered until the end. What are the things that I and my community have not yet conquered even though we have received God's promise? Let us believe in God’s promise and take on the challenge again with faith and perseverance.
The half-tribe of Manasseh and the tribes of Reuben and Gad obtained the eastern side of the Jordan as promised, but did not drive out the Geshur and Maachathites (8-13). Remembering that dwelling with those who should be driven out will ultimately be painful to you (Numbers 33:55 If you do not drive out the natives of the land before you, those you leave behind will be a thorn in your eyes. It will be a sting in your side and will afflict you in the land where you live), let's find out what we need to banish from our lives quickly.
Lord, help us to fight the good fight until the day of complete victory.
주님, 완전한 승리의 그날까지 선한 싸움을 싸우게 하옵소서.
