Destruction of Judah

Destruction of Judah

2 Kings 24:8 ~ 25:7

King Jehoiachin ruled evilly in the eyes of God, but after only three months of reign, he surrendered to King Nebuchannezzar of Babylon, who came to attack Jerusalem, and was taken captive to Babylon. Nebuchadnezzar makes Jehoiachin's uncle Mattaniah king of Judah and changes his name to Zedekiah. King Zedekiah rejects the word of God given through the prophet Jeremiah and betrays Babylonia. As a result, Jerusalem was besieged by King Nebuchadnezzar and fell after a severe famine. The sons are executed before King Zedekiah's eyes, and Zedekiah is taken to Babylon with his eyes gouged out.

God gives us a chance to change our mistakes. Rather than destroying Judah all at once, God had them taken captive by the Babylonians twice, hoping that Judah would turn around. Is there a sin for which God repeatedly knocks on my heart? Please turn around quickly.

King Jehoiachin does not turn away from the path of destruction his father walked (24:8-9). If we do not learn lessons from previous history, we have no choice but to repeat the mistakes of history. As a result, Judah gradually falls into an abyss of destruction from which there is no escape.

Dear Lord, give us humble hearts so that we may quickly respond to Your call of repentance.

사랑하는 주님, 당신의 회개의 부르심에 신속히 응답할 수 있도록 우리에게 겸손한 마음을 주소서.
