Song of Sorrow
Lamentations 1:1-11
Jeremiah personifies Jerusalem and represents it as a woman. Jerusalem, which in the past was revered like a queen and princess and visited by countless people, is now living a lonely and difficult life like a widow and maidservant. Jerusalem's clothes and body were full of filth. This defilement symbolizes the sin of Jerusalem. People who previously praised her now begin to despise and ridicule her when they see her impurity. Even the temple is invaded by enemies, and Jerusalem struggles to survive without even having anything to eat.
God punishes his beloved daughter Zion (5). It is not because love has cooled, but because Zion has committed a great crime. Although He had been speaking diligently since dawn (Jer 7:13), not listening became a habit from childhood (Jer 22:21). Because they could only be enlightened through harsh discipline, God handed them over to the hands of their enemies and put them in shame. In times of peace, let us listen carefully to the Lord’s warning.
The prophet accepts the suffering that God gives him, but does not give up on praying (8-11). Because he loves Jerusalem, he asks God for mercy for the city. What is our attitude when the sins and faults of the church are revealed? Let us feel deep pain in our hearts, sigh and pray for recovery.
Dear God, help us to know Your chastening love and grieve over our sins as we confess them before You.
사랑하는 하나님, 우리가 당신 앞에 죄를 고백할 때 당신의 징계하시는 사랑을 알고, 우리의 죄를 슬퍼할 수 있게 도와주세요.
