Elijah and Elisha

 

2 Kings 2:1-14

 

Following God's guidance, Elijah finally visited the places where God's promise had been carried out in Israel's history: Gilgal (Joshua 5), ​​Bethel (Genesis 28), Jericho (Joshua 6), and the Jordan River (Joshua 3). Elijah wanted to go on this journey alone, but his disciple Elisha begged him to go with him. Just before Elijah ascends to heaven, Elisha wishes that Elijah would be given twice the power of his teacher. After Elijah ascends to heaven, Elisha takes the cloak left by his teacher and performs the same miracle as Elijah, splitting the Jordan River.

 

God is a God of power. Not only did He take Elijah to heaven in a whirlwind, but He also gave Elisha amazing powers. Do we believe that God is powerful and gives us strength?

 

We must remain zealous until the end (1~6, 9). Even though Elijah tried to stop him three times, Elisha did not leave Elijah's side and followed him until the end, asking for twice as much power and following in Elijah's footsteps. We must follow our elders in faith and learn diligently from them. What efforts are we making to become like Jesus, our best mentor? And what efforts are you making for the next generation?

 

God, grant us double the power of Elijah so that we can carry out the mission You have given us! Let us follow our seniors in faith and resemble Jesus, our best mentor! And let us raise the next generation well!
