A child who will prepare the way of the Lord

 

Luke 1:57-80

 

John the Baptist's mother, Elizabeth, and father, Zacharias, give birth to a child and name him 'John (the Lord is merciful)' as the Lord commanded. Zacharias prophesies the coming Savior and the role of John the Baptist in preparing the way for him to come.

 

The child that the Lord gave was not just a blessing to a priest's family who was unhappy because they had no children, but a gift to the entire world that sat in the shadow of death (57-66). So the child’s name should not have been ‘Zacharia’, who would inherit the priesthood, but ‘John ​​(the Lord is merciful)’ who would prepare the way for Christ. Let us not forget that our possessions and talents are gifts given to us to serve our community and neighbors.

 

Jesus has already come, but he has not yet reached everyone's heart (76-79). Therefore, like John the Baptist, we must preach the coming of the Lord to those who have not heard and help them repent and accept the Lord. Who are still in darkness and under the shadow of death? Please let us know that the light of salvation is shining and that the path to life and peace is open.
