Joshua's last words

Joshua's last words

Joshua 24:19-33

Unless Israel abandons foreign gods, it will not be able to serve a holy and jealous God, and will eventually suffer disaster from God. After hearing Joshua's final advice, the Israelites once again pledge to serve only God and follow God's word. Joshua erects a large stone in Shechem as evidence of the covenant between God and the Israelites. The twelve tribes of Israel, who established a covenant in Shechem, the center of the land of Canaan, dispersed to their respective lands and began to put into practice a life that followed the covenant. Joshua, who fulfilled his mission to the end, dies at the age of 110.

God is holy and jealous (19-20). Because God is holy, He cannot be with sin, and because He is jealous, He cannot be with idols. If you do not abandon sin and idols, you will meet a God of wrath, not a God of grace. God who loves me cannot allow sin and idols.

Practicing obedience is more important than words of commitment (21-23). Before saying that I will only serve God from now on, I must let go of the idols within me now. It's easy to say, but difficult to change behavior. Simple obedience is needed before God rather than plausible words.

Holy and jealous God, I will walk in obedience before You.

거룩하시고 질투하시는 하나님, 나는 당신 앞에 순종하며 행하겠습니다.
