Sin that cannot be hidden

 

Hosea 7:1-16

God tried to heal Israel, but they continued to fall into sin. Those in power only pay attention to the opinions of surrounding powers, including Egypt and Assyria, and struggle for power to establish a king that suits their taste. Eventually, it loses its identity as a kingdom of priests and brings destruction upon itself. Even though they are falling apart, they do not appeal to God. Even if they cry out, there is no sincerity. They follow the Canaanite sacrificial custom of praying while hurting their bodies, and actually insult God.

 

God casts a net of judgment on Israel who refused to repent (12-16). However, they justified themselves and continued in their lies and rebellion. In the end, Israel, which left God, perished and became a subject of ridicule. If you leave God, God cannot help you even if He wants to. Even if you are beaten, the only way to survive is to turn back to your Father's arms.

 

Israel, which has left God, continues to rebel (3-7). They were always aiming for someone else's place and never extinguished the flames of anger, so they were always as dangerous as a heated oven. There can never be peace or rest in the hearts of nations, families, and individuals who do not serve God as King. No one can be exalted and no one can be a friend.

 

Dear God, help us to know that our strength is found only in making You glad.
