Let it be a monument forever
[Joshua 4:1-24]
To remember and commemorate God's act of drying up the Jordan River, Israel brought out twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan according to the number of tribes. After crossing the Jordan River to the priest, the river flows again. The Israelites camp at Gilgal and build a monument with stones taken from the Jordan River.Joshua explains once more the meaning of crossing the Jordan River. This means that God cares for Israel in the same way as he did back then, while reenacting the incident of crossing the Red Sea on foot, and shows that through this event, God hopes that Israel will know God's power and their faith will become stronger. Joshua tells us to teach the meaning of all this to our descendants.
God cares for his people with unwavering power and love. God takes care of his people with his power and love (23,24). The ‘aspect’ of God’s power and love is different, but the ‘size’ is the same. Think of God's power in drying up the Red Sea and the Jordan River and God's love in giving His Son to the cross. God takes care of us now with his love and power.
God tells us to take twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan River, build a monument, and teach this to future generations (1-9). We must remember and celebrate the grace that God has provided us with guidance and salvation in our lives. God who allowed me to travel to Pakistan alone 20 years ago, and who allowed me to visit Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan in 2019 to spread the gospel and travel safely, and God who yesterday allowed Pakistani brothers and sisters to come together to praise God and spread the word of God together. I want to remember and celebrate.
God who parted the Red Sea and the Jordan River and made them cross, let us remember and commemorate the power and love of God who guided and saved us in our lives and pass them on to future generations!
