Treating Heavenly Family
[1 Timothy 5:1-8]
Paul tells Timothy to be courteous when exhorting believers, as if he were treating his family. Elderly church members should be treated like parents, and young people should be treated like brothers and sisters. The church must become a family for widows who are left alone without a family.
We must be polite when exhorting one another (1,2). This is because the church is not a power institution or interest group, but a family with God as its father. We must clearly admonish our members for their mistakes, but do not reprimand them in a domineering manner, but rather as we treat our parents and siblings.
Children and grandchildren should primarily help widows financially. The church must respect and help true widows who have no relatives to help them (3-8). As a true widow, a lonely person must place her hope in God and always make supplications and prayers day and night. Christian piety must be demonstrated by caring for the weak. We must ensure that no one in the community is excluded from our attention and love.
God, when we exhort one another, please help us be courteous and treat each other like we treat our parents and siblings! And may we respect our parents and elders and respect and help widows!
