Renew Us Again!

 

Lamentations 5:11-22

 

Jeremiah tells the story of the harrowing experiences of each group that makes up society. Women are trampled and leaders and elders are tortured or executed. Young people and children lost their vitality doing the work that animals and slaves used to do. Survivors confess that all of this is because of their sins. Returning to God is the only way to recovery, so Jeremiah asks the Lord to help Israel to return to Him and resolved that Israel would return to the Lord. He pleaded with God to turn from His wrath and accept them once more.

 

In a society that has lost God, all classes suffer (11-17). Today, the discrimination faced by the vulnerable, the frustration and wandering of young people, the excessive competition experienced by children, and the contempt faced by the elderly overlap with the situation in Jerusalem. Those who seek God can fix these social problems. Let us become Christians who fulfill the responsibilities of the times.

 

The fundamental solution to humanity's problems is to turn to God (21). This does not happen willingly, nor does it happen without will. We must rely on God's power and pray, and at the same time, we must strengthen our hearts and gain strength.

 

Lord, renew us and the land we live in. Do not abandon us, but instead, have compassion on us.
