A Battle of Prophecies

 

Jeremiah 28:1-17

 

In the year that Jeremiah prophesied, a prophet named Hananiah appeared and completely overturned Jeremiah's prophecy. Jeremiah responds that he hopes to be like Hananiah's words, but what the true word of God is will be revealed by whether the prophecy is fulfilled, as Moses said. Afterwards, God says that Hananiah, who misled the people with false prophecy, will die within a year. As He said, Hananiah dies that year.

 

God judged Hananiah for prophesying lies(15~17). Those who oppose God's will will surely be judged. We must not be deceived by false prophets who often speak of peace. Breaking the wooden yoke will not bring peace. Judgment against heresy and false teachings will come in God's time.

 

Jeremiah also earnestly hopes that Israel will be saved as Hananiah said, but he puts down his expectations and delivers the word of God as it is. When ego takes precedence, both God and His Word are reduced to tools. Do I ever steal God's name when conveying my thoughts?

 

Dear God, help us to not attach our selfish desires and words to Your name.
