Who should I imitate?
Matthew 23:1-12
Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples,
saying: "The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the chair of Moses; therefore all that they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds; for they say things and do not do them. And they make the people burdened with many burdens, and they do not labor even a finger. And it is because they act to be seen by people, like high places, and like to be called Rabbi(teacher) by men. However, you are told not to call them teacher, father, or leader. Because the teacher, father and leader are only God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ. And the greatest among you shall be your servant, and whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”
God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ are our only Teacher, Father and Leader. So, we should not like to be called teacher, father, and leader, but rather humble ourselves and become servants.
We must not imitate the behavior of the scribes and Pharisees. They only talk and don't do anything, they just put a lot of burden on the people, and they don't even work on a finger. We must imitate the Lord who bore the cross for us.
God, help us not to be called teacher, father, and leader, but to humble ourselves and serve! Let us not imitate the deeds of the scribes and Pharisees, who only talk and do nothing, but let us imitate the Lord who bore the cross for us!
