Colossians 2:1623

Paul exhorts the Colossian church members to let no one judge you about eating and drinking, feasts, new moons, or sabbaths.

And Paul urge them not to let anyone slander them by claiming asceticism and worship of angels. Such a person is intoxicated with the visions he has seen, and he is absurdly proud of his carnal thoughts. The whole body is nourished by Christ, the head, and connected to each other through each joint and tendon, and grows as God makes it grow, but such a person is not attached to Christ, the head.

Pretentious piety, humility, and celibacy seem to have overcome the culture of the world of debauchery, but they do not change the hearts and nature of people.

The saints who have been completely saved through Christ must no longer accept the criticism of false teachers. They follow the Jews' insistence on eating and drinking laws and demanding literal observance of feasts, new moons, and sabbaths, but these laws are only shadows of the real Christ, and are the fulfillments of Christ's coming. The literal observance of the law should no longer be a sign of godliness or a standard of judgment and criticism. We must not live according to the values of the kingdom of God and become a person who only looks good in the form of godliness.

The rules and customs of our beliefs can encourage hypocrisy and oppress our lives. Jewish scholars made many norms with the Mosaic Law, but Jesus summarized them as love of God and love of neighbor. A shadow appears in many forms, but the substance is one. See if what I am adhering to and demanding is a reflection of my love for the Lord and for my neighbor.

Do not brag about your special act of faith, but let us practice faith and love every day!
