Ways to prevent and resolve conflict and division
Judges 20:1-7
Because of the heinous thing, all the people of the tribe of Israel gathered at Mizpah with 400,000 soldiers. At that time, the husband of the dead woman, a Levite, threatened to kill the people of Gibeah, who belonged to the tribe of Benjamin, and caused her concubine to die horribly.
There has never been such a large number of troops gathered in any war during the period of the Judges, and 400,000 soldiers are burning with a sense of justice for the revenge of one Levite. We must first be able to discern whether the work we are trying to participate in by gathering strength is truly pleasing to God through the Word.
The Levite hides his fault for giving up his concubine irresponsibly and emphasizes only the damage he has suffered. Before demanding righteous judgment, he had to examine himself and repent of his evil self-centeredness. Before we, too, get angry at the sins of others, let's coolly examine whether we were at fault.
God, help us to discern with the Word whether the work we are trying to participate in is truly pleasing to God! Before I get angry at someone else's sins, let me coolly look back to see if I've done anything wrong!
