Maturity of Love

 

[Song of Solomon 7:1-13]

 

The man who left the woman due to a minor misunderstanding praises her beauty from head to toe as he did on their wedding day (Chapter 4). The woman, who had misunderstood that her love for the man had cooled, confesses her love that has deepened by saying, “I am yours.” The woman responds to the man’s passionate love. The woman invites him to the vineyard because she wants to be with him. And she recalls the love that has continued from their first meeting to the present.

 

The human body is a beautiful work of art made by God (1-9). In the body of a woman, a man discovered both the beauty of a work of art made with great care by a craftsman and the beauty of a masterpiece made by God. Our body also contains the entirety of God’s sincerity. Our body is a masterpiece of God that reveals God’s craftsmanship.

 

Love is togetherness (11,12 Come, my darling. Let us go out into the field together. Let us spend the night together in the woods. Let us go together to the vineyard in the morning. Let us go see whether the grapes have budded, whether the flowers have bloomed, whether the pomegranates have blossomed. There I will offer you my love). In these two short verses, the woman uses the word “together” four times, revealing her desire to be with the man. How much are you together with the person you love? You have to talk, sympathize, share, accompany, and work together, saying that you love.

 

Lord, help us practice a love that is present, giving, and patient.
