여러 사람이 함께 살아가려면 상식이 필요합니다. Common sense is needed for many people to live together. 몰상식하거나 비상식적인 행동을 보면 누구나 눈살을 찌푸리기 마련입니다. Anyone who sees senseless or unreasonable behavior is bound to frown. 하지만 때로는 상식을 뛰어넘는 일들이 세상을 깜짝 놀라게 합니다. But sometimes things that go beyond common sense surprise the world. 하나님의 전쟁이 그렇습니다. God's war is like that. 이스라엘은 철옹성 같은 여리고를 앞에 두고, 가나안 족속과의 첫 전쟁을 앞두고 있습니다. Israel is facing its first war with the Canaanites, with the fortress-like city of Jericho in front of it. 그런데 여호수아가 이스라엘 군대에 내린 명령은 상식을 벗어난 것이었습니다. However, the command that Joshua gave to the Israelite army was beyond common sense.

 

□말씀과 나눔 Words and Sharing

1. 이스라엘은 철옹성과 같은 여리고 성을 기이한 방법으로 무너뜨립니다(8~21절). 1. Israel destroys the fortress-like walls of Jericho in a strange way (verses 8-21).

1) 여리고 성을 무너뜨린 방법은 무엇입니까(8~16, 20절)? 1) How did the walls of Jericho fall (verses 8-16, 20)?

8 여호수아가 백성에게 이르기를 마치매 제사장 일곱은 양각 나팔 일곱을 잡고 여호와 앞에서 나아가며 나팔을 불고 여호와의 언약궤는 그 뒤를 따르며

9 그 무장한 자들은 나팔 부는 제사장들 앞에서 행진하며 후군은 궤 뒤를 따르고 제사장들은 나팔을 불며 행진하더라

10 여호수아가 백성에게 명령하여 이르되 너희는 외치지 말며 너희 음성을 들리게 하지 말며 너희 입에서 아무 말도 내지 말라 그리하다가 내가 너희에게 명령하여 외치라 하는 날에 외칠지니라 하고

11 여호와의 궤가 그 성을 한 번 돌게 하고 그들이 진영으로 들어와서 진영에서 자니라

12 또 여호수아가 아침에 일찍이 일어나니 제사장들이 여호와의 궤를 메고

13 제사장 일곱은 양각 나팔 일곱을 잡고 여호와의 궤 앞에서 계속 행진하며 나팔을 불고 무장한 자들은 그 앞에 행진하며 후군은 여호와의 궤 뒤를 따르고 제사장들은 나팔을 불며 행진하니라

14 그 둘째 날에도 그 성을 한 번 돌고 진영으로 돌아오니라 엿새 동안을 이같이 행하니라

15 일곱째 날 새벽에 그들이 일찍이 일어나서 전과 같은 방식으로 그 성을 일곱 번 도니 그 성을 일곱 번 돌기는 그 날뿐이었더라

16 일곱 번째에 제사장들이 나팔을 불 때에 여호수아가 백성에게 이르되 외치라 여호와께서 너희에게 이 성을 주셨느니라

20 이에 백성은 외치고 제사장들은 나팔을 불매 백성이 나팔 소리를 들을 때에 크게 소리 질러 외치니 성벽이 무너져 내린지라 백성이 각기 앞으로 나아가 그 성에 들어가서 그 성을 점령하고

And just as Joshua had commanded the people, the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams' horns before the LORD went forward, blowing the trumpets, with the ark of the covenant of the LORD following them.The armed men were walking before the priests who were blowing the trumpets, and the rear guard was walking after the ark, while the trumpets blew continually.But Joshua commanded the people, “You shall not shout or make your voice heard, neither shall any word go out of your mouth, until the day I tell you to shout. Then you shall shout.”So he caused the ark of the LORD to circle the city, going about it once. And they came into the camp and spent the night in the camp.Then Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the LORD.And the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the LORD walked on, and they blew the trumpets continually. And the armed men were walking before them, and the rear guard was walking after the ark of the LORD, while the trumpets blew continually.And the second day they marched around the city once, and returned into the camp. So they did for six days.On the seventh day they rose early, at the dawn of day, and marched around the city in the same manner seven times. It was only on that day that they marched around the city seven times.And at the seventh time, when the priests had blown the trumpets, Joshua said to the people, “Shout, for the LORD has given you the city.

So the people shouted, and the trumpets were blown. As soon as the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they captured the city.

여리고 성을 이스라엘 백성이 6일 동안 한 바퀴를 돌고 7일째 일곱 바퀴를 돌고 함성을 지르는 것 The Israelites circled the city of Jericho once for six days and then seven times on the seventh day, shouting.

2) 여리고 성을 점령할 때, 여호수아는 전리품에 대해 어떤 명령을 내립니까(18절)?

2) When capturing the city of Jericho, what orders does Joshua give regarding the loot (verse 18)?

18 너희는 온전히 바치고 그 바친 것 중에서 어떤 것이든지 취하여 너희가 이스라엘 진영으로 바치는 것이 되게 하여 고통을 당하게 되지 아니하도록 오직 너희는 그 바친 물건에 손대지 말라

But you, keep yourselves from the things devoted to destruction, lest when you have devoted them you take any of the devoted things and make the camp of Israel a thing for destruction and bring trouble upon it.

 

전리품을 온전히 바치고 그 바친 물건에 손대지 말라고 명령했습니다. He ordered them to dedicate all the spoils and not to touch the donated items.

 

<나눔 1> 이스라엘이 여리고 성을 점령하는 방법이나, 전쟁에 참여한 군인들에게 어떤 전리품도 허용하지 않고 하나님께 드린 일은 모두 상식을 벗어난 것입니다. <Sharing 1> The way Israel occupied the city of Jericho and the way they did not allow any loot to the soldiers who participated in the war and gave it to God are all outside of common sense. 하나님이 상식을 뛰어넘는 일을 하시려고 내게 비상식적으로 보이는 일을 명령하신 경험이 이 있다면 나눠봅시다. If you have ever had an experience where God commanded you to do something that seemed unreasonable in order to do something that went beyond common sense, let’s share it.

 

하나님께서 이스라엘(우리)의 심판을 상징적으로 보여주기 위해 강단에서 뚝배기를 깨라고 명령하신 사건이 있었습니다. There was an incident where God ordered an earthen pot to be broken on the pulpit to symbolically show the judgment of Israel (us).

 

2. 이스라엘이 전쟁에서 얻은 모든 것을 여호와께 구별하여 드립니다(8~27절).

2. Israel gives all that it has gained in war to the Lord (verses 8-27).

1) 여리고 전쟁에서 제사장들의 임무는 무엇입니까(8~9, 12~13, 20절)?

1) What is the priests’ mission in the Jericho War (verses 8-9, 12-13, 20)?

8 여호수아가 백성에게 이르기를 마치매 제사장 일곱은 양각 나팔 일곱을 잡고 여호와 앞에서 나아가며 나팔을 불고 여호와의 언약궤는 그 뒤를 따르며

9 그 무장한 자들은 나팔 부는 제사장들 앞에서 행진하며 후군은 궤 뒤를 따르고 제사장들은 나팔을 불며 행진하더라

And the armed men were walking before them, and the rear guard was walking after the ark of the LORD, while the trumpets blew continually.

So the people shouted, and the trumpets were blown. As soon as the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they captured the city.

 

제사장의 임무는 나팔을 부는 것입니다. The priest's duty is to blow the trumpet.

 

2) 전쟁 후의 모든 전리품은 어디에 두었습니까(19,24절)?

2) Where were all the spoils placed after the war (verses 19, 24)?

 

19 은금과 동철 기구들은 다 여호와께 구별될 것이니 그것을 여호와의 곳간에 들일지니라 하니라

24 무리가 그 성과 그 가운데에 있는 모든 것을 불로 사르고 은금과 동철 기구는 여호와의 집 곳간에 두었더라

But all silver and gold, and every vessel of bronze and iron, are holy to the LORD; they shall go into the treasury of the LORD.

And they burned the city with fire, and everything in it. Only the silver and gold, and the vessels of bronze and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the LORD.

 

모든 전리품은 여호와의 집 곳간에 두었습니다. All the spoil was placed in the treasury of the Lord's house.

 

<나눔 2> 제사장들이 언약궤를 보위하고 나팔을 불며 여리고 성 주위를 도는 행렬은 하나님의 행차를 나타내는 것이었습니다. <Sharing 2> The procession of priests guarding the Ark of the Covenant and blowing trumpets around the walls of Jericho represented God’s procession. 이스라엘 백성은 여리고 전쟁이 온전히 하나님의 손에 의해 이뤄졌음을 고백하기 위해 모든 것을 하나님께 드렸습니다. The Israelites offered everything to God to confess that the Jericho War was entirely by God's hand. 하나님의 일하심을 경험하고 고백한 적이 있다면 나눠봅시다. If you have ever experienced and confessed God’s work, let’s share it.

 

지난 주에 파키스탄에서 온 샤문 형제와 함께 그의 부동산 임대차 재계약, 인천법원, 서울고등법원 그리고 안산 출입국 사무소를 하루 만에 다녀 올 수 있었던 것은 하나님의 일하심을 경험하고 “할렐루야”로 하나님을 찬양했습니다. Last week, being able to renew his real estate lease with Brother Shamoon from Pakistan, and visit the Incheon Court, Seoul High Court, and Ansan Immigration Office in one day allowed me to experience God's work and praise God with a “Hallelujah.”

 

3. 여호수아는 라합과 그의 가족을 모두 살리도록 명령합니다(22~25절). 그 이유는 무엇입니까(25절)?

3. Joshua orders Rahab and her entire family to be saved (verses 22-25). What is the reason (verse 25)?

 

22 여호수아가 그 땅을 정탐한 두 사람에게 이르되 그 기생의 집에 들어가서 너희가 그 여인에게 맹세한 대로 그와 그에게 속한 모든 것을 이끌어 내라 하매

23 정탐한 젊은이들이 들어가서 라합과 그의 부모와 그의 형제와 그에게 속한 모든 것을 이끌어 내고 또 그의 친족도 다 이끌어 내어 그들을 이스라엘의 진영 밖에 두고

24 무리가 그 성과 그 가운데에 있는 모든 것을 불로 사르고 은금과 동철 기구는 여호와의 집 곳간에 두었더라

25 여호수아가 기생 라합과 그의 아버지의 가족과 그에게 속한 모든 것을 살렸으므로 그가 오늘까지 이스라엘 중에 거주하였으니 이는 여호수아가 여리고를 정탐하려고 보낸 사자들을 숨겼음이었더라

But to the two men who had spied out the land, Joshua said, “Go into the prostitute's house and bring out from there the woman and all who belong to her, as you swore to her.”So the young men who had been spies went in and brought out Rahab and her father and mother and brothers and all who belonged to her. And they brought all her relatives and put them outside the camp of Israel.And they burned the city with fire, and everything in it. Only the silver and gold, and the vessels of bronze and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the LORD.But Rahab the prostitute and her father's household and all who belonged to her, Joshua saved alive. And she has lived in Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.

 

라합이 여리고를 정탐하려고 보낸 사자들을 숨겼기 때문에

Because Rahab hid the messengers sent to spy out Jericho.

 

<나눔 3> 하나님은 가나안 족속을 완전히 진멸하라 명령하셨지만(신 7:1,2; 20:16,17), 이스라엘은 라합과 그의 가족을 살려 이스라엘 공동체로 받아들였습니다. <Sharing 3> God ordered the complete annihilation of the Canaanites (Deuteronomy 7:1,2; 20:16,17), but Israel saved Rahab and her family and accepted them into the Israeli community. 라합이 먼저 믿음을 보였기 때문입니다(약 2:25). This is because Rahab showed faith first (James 2:25).

 

우리가 적대감과 경계심을 거두고 연대해야 할 이웃은 누구인지 살펴봅시다.

Let’s take a look at who our neighbors are with whom we must stop being hostile and wary and stand in solidarity with them.

 

기생 라합은 이방인이었지만 하나님을 경외하며 믿음으로 정탐꾼을 숨김으로 그녀와 그녀의 가족들을 구원했어요.Rahab, a prostitute, was a foreigner, but she feared God and hid the spies with faith, saving her and her family. 그러나 아간은 유대인이며 유다지파의 자손이었지만 탐욕으로 하나님의 말씀에 순종하지 않아서 그와 그의 가족은 심판을 받아 죽임을 당했습니다. However, although Achan was a Jew and a descendant of the tribe of Judah, he did not obey God's words due to greed, so he and his family were judged and killed. 우리는 어떠한 삶을 살아야 할까요? What kind of life should we live?

 

우리는 기생 라합과 같이 하나님을 경외하며 믿음으로 행동하여 자신과 자신의 가족을 구원시켜야 합니다. Like Rahab the prostitute, we must fear God and act in faith to save ourselves and our families.

 

□함께 기도드려요 Let's pray together

 

주여, 우리가 순결함을 옷 입고 온전히 주님 앞에 설 수 있도록 도와주옵소서.

Lord, help us to be clothed with purity so we can stand wholly before You.

매사에 하나님의 일하심을 경험하고 고백하게 하소서!

Let us experience and confess God’s work in everything we do!

 

기생 라합과 같이 하나님을 경외하고 믿음으로 행함으로 우리 자신과 가족, 친척과 이웃을 구원하게 하소서!

Let us save ourselves, our families, relatives, and neighbors by fearing God and acting in faith like Rahab the prostitute!
