A True Prophet

A True Prophet

1 Kings 22:1-14

Southern Judah and Northern Israel form an alliance to attack Syria. Jehoshaphat, king of southern Judah, suggested asking God's will before attacking Syria, and King Ahab of northern Israel gathered 400 prophets and asked God's will. They prophesy that it is God's will to strike Syria. King Jehoshaphat recognized that these were false prophets and asked if there were any other prophets. Although it was not appropriate for King Ahab, he summoned the prophet Micaiah, who spoke directly to him. While 400 prophets, including Zedekiah, gathered in front of the city gate and predicted King Ahab's victory, Prophet Micaiah was determined to deliver only the word of God.

Ahab keeps around 400 prophets who only say good things (5,6). It is to rationalize evil deeds and greed. Even if you listen to famous preachers' sermons and read a lot of religious books, if you only listen to good words, it becomes poisonous. Let’s listen to sermons that make us uncomfortable and worry us.

Prophet Micaiah shows the true character of a prophet. He answers that he will only preach the words he has received from God. Because of this, the prophet Micaiah was hated by King Ahab and was imprisoned. Even if suffering is right in front of you, will you only preach the word of God?

Lord, help me to listen, not just to the things I want to hear, but also to words that may taste bitter but will change my life for the better.

주님, 제가 듣고 싶은 말뿐만 아니라, 쓴맛이 나지만 제 삶을 더 나은 방향으로 변화시키는 말에도 귀를 기울일 수 있게 도와주세요.
