Please give me wisdom (a listening heart)!

1 Kings 3:1-15

 

King Solomon enters into a marriage relationship with the king of Egypt, takes his daughter as his wife, and offers a sacrifice at the high place. When he was offering a thousand burnt offerings at the high place at Gibeon, God appeared to Solomon in a dream and said, “Ask me what you want. I will give you.” Solomon said, “David, the father of your servant, is with You before You in sincerity, justice, and uprightness of heart. By his actions, You has shown great grace to my father David, and has given him a son to sit on his throne as today, and Your servant has become king in place of my father David. I ask for wisdom (a listening heart) so that I can judge this many people righteously.” When God heard this, He was pleased and gave Solomon a wise and intelligent heart, as well as wealth and glory that he did not ask for. And He promises, “If you keep My statutes and My commandments, just as your father David did, I will prolong your days.”

 

When Solomon humbly asks for wisdom to govern his people well, God gives him wisdom and intelligence, as well as wealth and glory that he did not ask for. And if he walk in God's ways and keep His laws and commands, just like David did, God will give him a long life(7~14). When we seek wisdom (a listening heart) to successfully carry out the mission God has given us, He will give us wisdom and intelligence, as well as wealth and glory that we did not ask for. And just like David did, if you will walk in God's way and keep God's word, and then you will enjoy the blessing of living a long life.

 

King Solomon entered into a marriage relationship with the king of Egypt, took his daughter as his wife, and offered a sacrifice at the high place. This becomes the cause of not being able to follow God's path until the end and falling into the sin of worshiping idols(1~3). In order to walk God's path until the end, we must stay close to the Word of God and reject the temptations of the world.

 

God, please give us wisdom (a listening heart) to successfully carry out the mission given to us! And help us stay close to the Word of God and resist the temptations of the world so that we can walk God’s path until the end!
