Those who believe in people vs those who trust in God
Jeremiah 17:1-18
The sins of the people of Judah are engraved in their hearts and altars with an adamantine stylus, and their children think of the altar and Asherah on the high hill. Because of the sin of the whole territory of Judah, their property and treasures will be plundered, and they will serve their enemies in an unknown land, because they have aroused the LORD's anger fiercely. Those who believe in people and leave the Lord are cursed and live in uninhabited places, but those who trust in the Lord are blessed, like a tree planted by streams of water, like a tree whose leaves are green and fruitless.
The heart is deceitful above all things and extremely corrupt. The Lord searches the heart and repays him according to his deeds. A person who becomes rich by accumulating wealth unrighteously is like a partridge hatching an egg that it did not lay, and it leaves in middle age and becomes a fool. Those who forsake the LORD, Israel's hope, will be put to shame. Jeremiah prayed that the Lord is my song, heal me and save me. And the Lord is my refuge; I ask that those who persecute me be reproached, and do not let me be disgraced.
God curses those who believe in people and whose hearts turn away from the Lord, but those who trust in the Lord will be blessed, like a tree planted by the water, so that its leaves will remain green and fruitful even when the heat comes (5-8 ). Therefore, we must trust and rely on God rather than trusting people.
Remembering that the heart is more deceitful than all things and extremely corrupt, and that God searches the heart and repays people according to their deeds, abandons the desire to accumulate wealth through unrighteousness, and develops a new heart through sincere repentance and a renewed heart of Christ through the Holy Spirit. You must pray to have it (9~11).
God, let us rely on You rather than trusting and relying on people! May our hearts truly repent and have the heart of Christ renewed by the Holy Spirit! Heal us and save us! May those who persecute us be humiliated so that we can fulfill the duty of a shepherd well despite the ridicule of our enemies!
