Jesus endured contempt and humiliation and bore the cross for us.
Matthew 27:27-44
The governor's soldiers brought Jesus into the governor's palace, stripped him of his clothes, put a crown of thorns on him, put a crown of thorns on his head, and put a reed in his right hand. Then they spit on him and took the reed and hit him on the head. After the teasing is over, take off the red robe, put on his clothes, take up the cross, and head to Golgotha. On the way, they meet Simon of Cyrene and have him carry the cross of Jesus. When the soldiers arrived at Golgotha, they gave Jesus wine mixed with gall to drink, but he refused to drink it. When he was crucified with the two thieves, they stripped Jesus of his clothes and divided them by casting lots. And many mockingly say that if you are the son of God, come down immediately, and curse the two thieves who were crucified together.
Jesus endured all contempt and insults for us and died on the cross. The love of Jesus towards us has made it possible to overcome all harassment and hardships. Remembering the love of Jesus, we can also live as true disciples who take up our cross and follow the Lord. We can forgive those who have wronged us and work for peace.
God, let us give thanks to Jesus who endured all contempt and insults for us and died on the cross, and let us take up our cross and live as true disciples who follow you! May we forgive others and work for peace!
