Faith and Patience

Faith and Patience

Hebrews 6:9-20

Since God is not unrighteous, He will not forget your deeds and the love you have shown for His name (v. 10).

God holds our weak faith by his strong oath. God had already promised Abraham a blessing (Gen. 12:1~3; 17:1~22), but he assured it again with an oath (Genesis 22:1~18). Because he could not lie, a promise was enough, but the purpose of God's oath was to reassure and comfort Abraham, who had left his hometown and made God his refuge. God knows that we can be shaken as we go toward hope, and He holds us up with His words of promises and oaths (verses 13-18).

Jesus is the anchor of hope. He became an anchor in himself and bound us with a strong bond of love that never breaks, entered the heavenly sanctuary where God is (Hebrews 9:24) and fixed us to God. Thanks to Jesus, we do not drift away from God to any sect. And on the day when all segregation ceases, we will find ourselves bound to Jesus and anchored safely before God (vv. 19, 20).

Love and service to the saints is a sure sign of salvation. The author, who had seriously warned of apostasy, changed the mood and said that the recipients were certain that they had been saved. It is because they knew the evidence that they belonged to salvation, that is, they served the saints with love (Hebrews 10:33,34). What kind of love is God's salvation creating in me?

Do not be lazy, but be imitators of those who in faith and perseverance inherit the promise (verse 12).

Those who believe in God's promises must be patient and not lose hope. Abraham waited for the birth of Isaac for 25 years (Gen. 12:4; 21:5), and he did not lose faith while offering the Isaac he had obtained (Hebrews 11:17-19). Although he did not see the promise fulfilled before his death, his perseverance was not in vain. As God had promised, he became the father of a great nation, and through Jesus, who came as his descendant, all nations were blessed. In reality, even if it seems that God's promises will not come true, let's wait for the day of fulfillment with 'faith' and 'perseverance'. Those who ‘ Against all hope, but still in hope’ (Romans 4:18 In hope he believed against hope, that he should become the father of many nations, as he had been told, “So shall your offspring be.”) are the true descendants of Abraham (verses 11-15)

God, help me not to be lazy, but to imitate those who in faith and perseverance inherit the promises!

I hope that one day I will participate in God's rest, and let me live with faith and patience!
