Do not swear rashly
Judges 21:1-12
The Israelites wept bitterly at the thought that the tribe of Benjamin would be removed from Israel by swearing not to marry their daughters to Benjamites at Mizpah. The next morning they built an altar and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. When the children of Israel realized that a certain tribe was not attending the general assembly before the Lord, they swore to kill anyone who did not come before the Lord. 400 men were brought to the camp in Shiloh.
It is more important to properly discern and obey God's will than to offer burnt offerings and peace offerings. The Israelites offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, but their rash oaths resulted in killing people recklessly. Sacrifice and worship are important, but living a righteous life is even more important.
God, help me to worship God in spirit and truth, and live a life of rightly discerning and obeying God's will without making hasty oaths!
