재물이 아니라 하나님만을 의지하고 섬기게 하소서!

 

예레미야 51:11~19

하나님은 만물을 지으시고 이스라엘을 자신의 소유로 삼으신, ‘만군의 주님’이십니다(15~19). 능력과 지혜와 명철로 만물을 창조하시고 지금도 세상을 다스리시는 만왕의 왕이십니다. 만군의 주님이시며 만왕의 왕이신 하나님을 자기의 분깃(소유, 유산)으로 삼는 자가 영생을 누리는 복있는 사람입니다.

 

바빌론의 많은 재물이 그들의 멸망을 막지 못합니다(13,14). 재물과 하나님을 겸하여 섬길 수가 없습니다. 재물의 힘으로 작동하는 제국의 질서가 정의와 사랑으로 세워지는 하나님 나라와 공존할 수 없습니다. 재물을 신으로 삼은 사람은 재물과 함께 망하고, 재물을 의지하는 사람은 재물의 끝이 곧 자신의 끝이 될 것입니다. 우리는 재물이 아니라 하나님만을 섬기는 삶을 살아야 합니다.

 

만군의 주님이시며 만왕의 왕이신 하나님, 저희가 하나님을 저희의 분깃(소유, 유산)으로 삼게 하시고 저희가 재물이 아니라 오직 하나님만을 섬기는 삶을 살게 하소서!

Let us rely and serve only God, not wealth!

 

Jeremiah 51:11-19

 

God is the ‘Lord of hosts’ who created all things and made Israel his own (15-19). He is the King of kings who created all things with power, wisdom, and understanding and still rules the world. Those who make God, the Lord of hosts and King of kings, their portion (possession, inheritance) are the blessed people who enjoy eternal life.

 

Babylon's great wealth cannot prevent its destruction (13,14). You cannot serve both wealth and God. The imperial order that operates through the power of wealth cannot coexist with the kingdom of God that is established through justice and love. A person who makes wealth his god will perish along with it, and a person who relies on wealth will see the end of wealth become his own end. We must live a life that serves only God, not wealth.

 

God, Lord of hosts and King of kings, let us make you our portion (possession, inheritance) and live a life that serves only you, not wealth!
