Father vs Son
Jeremiah 22:10-19
God tells not to weep for the dead, but weep for those who have been taken prisoner. This is because he will never come back and never see his homeland. Woe to the man who builds his house in unrighteousness and hires his neighbor and does not pay his wages. King Josiah defended the poor by doing justice and righteousness, and he prospered. But Josiah's son, King Jehoiakim, acted with greed and violence, and he was thrown outside the gates of Jerusalem and buried like a donkey, but no one wept bitterly.
God made King Josiah, who defended the needy by doing justice and righteousness, prosper (15,16). This is knowing God. Knowing God's heart, let us also live a prosperous life helping the poor by doing justice and righteousness.
However, God says woe to those who build attics dishonestly, hire neighbors, and do not pay wages. Josiah's son Jehoiakim shed innocent blood and practiced oppression, and he was dragged and thrown outside the gates of Jerusalem and buried like an ass, but no one mourned. We and our leaders need to look back to see if there is no evil like this.
God, let us and our leaders do justice and righteousness, defend the needy, and live a prosperous life! And let us look back to see if King Jehoiakim's evil sins are not on us and our leaders!
