Forgive seventy times seven!
Matthew 18:21-35
Peter came to Jesus and said, How many times will I forgive my brother if he sins against me? Shall I do it seven times? To the question, Jesus said to forgive seventy times seven. And He is talking about a man who owed ten thousand talents. 10,000 talents means an enormous number of about 30 trillion. The person who received this forgiveness does not forgive the debtor of 100 denarii (100 days' labor wages, about 7 million won) and sends him to prison. It is a story that the owner who heard this evil will send the person who owed 10,000 talents to prison.
God first forgives debts that people can never repay, and wants them to live forgiving each other. Are you having a hard time because of an unfair thing? May we forgive each other, remembering the love of God our Father who sent His only begotten Son for us, the grace of Jesus who bore the cross for us, and the mercy of canceling debts that people could never repay.
The one who owed the 10,000 talent debt did not forgive the 100 denarius debtor, so he could not get the 10,000 talent debt forgiven and went to prison. If you do not forgive each other in your heart, Heavenly Father will not forgive you either.
God, as those who have been forgiven of unrepayable debts, help us forgive each other and live!
