Jotham's parable
Judges 9:7-21
Jotham, who survived the murder of Abimelech's 70 brothers, mustered up the courage to climb Mount Gerizim to the people of Shechem with a parable and a warning message to the people of Shechem who had sympathized with establishing Abimelech as king.
Jotham points out their evil deeds as if prophesying the Word of God. Jotham's curse heard from the 'Mountain of Blessing' is God's warning for a twisted age in which people close their eyes to evil and sympathize with injustice. Even if you lack the strength to stop it directly, you should not be silent. Like Jotham, you must be able to speak the right words that God wants.
In Jotham's parable, the olive tree, the fig tree, and the vine refuse to become kings. Those without qualifications (thorns) only crave for positions, but those with qualifications do their best in their assigned positions. Knowing your fraction and fulfilling your role faithfully is a righteous and beautiful life.
Lord, help me to manifest truth and impartiality in every aspect of my life.
