Kibroth-hattaavah- The tomb of greed

Numbers 11:26~35

God used wind to send quails to the people, and then sent a plague to those who had complained before.

Even the two elders who had remained in the camp, against Moses' commands, received God's Spirit and prophesied. Joshua believed that they should not prophesy. However, Moses said that it would be wrong to stop God from pouring down His Spirit over small issues. Following on from this, God provided the people with so much meat that they would grow sick of it, as He had promised. However, He also struck them down with a plague just as they had begun to eat it. This was a judgement of wrath on those who had forgotten to be thankful and repent because of their greed.

God poured His Spirit not just into the elders in the tent but also into the two elders who had remained in the camp, and caused them prophesy. God fills us with the Spirit so that we can live as people of His Kingdom, not just in the church but in every aspect of our lives.

Moses and the 70 elders returned to the camp. Like Jesus, who did not stay enraptured by the glory at the Mount of Transfiguration, but continued on up to Calvary, these elders also did not stay in the rapture of God, but returned to ordinary life, where they had to work as Moses' helpers. Like this, experiences of God do not separate us from ordinary life; instead, they call us to live as Christians in our daily lives.

Lord, fill us and our communities with Your Spirit, so that we can overcome jealousy, competition, and greed.
