Always Be Awake

 

Luke 21:29-38

 

Just as the fig tree leaves indicate the season, the disciples must read the imminent arrival of the kingdom of God by observing the events Jesus spoke of. Jesus says that all these events will occur before the end of “this generation.” Just as the day of destruction has come to Jerusalem, just as Jesus said, He will surely come as the judge of the world. Jesus tells the disciples to always be awake and pray so that that day will not come suddenly like a trap.

 

Jesus went to the temple that was about to be destroyed and taught those who were going to kill him (37-38). It was Jesus’s earnest love to save even one person before the day of judgment. Isn’t the life of one who follows the Lord and waits for the Lord’s second coming to spread the gospel of the Kingdom of God to people until the end of his life?

 

The coming of the kingdom of God is the coming of the Lord of judgment and salvation (33-36). Because they do not recognize the signs or omens, many people think that there will be no second coming and no judgment. However, unlike them, we must live in preparation for that day. Only those who are prepared for that day will meet the Lord.

 

Lord, help us listen carefully to Your Word, be spiritually alert, and pray to You daily.
