Wrong illusion, wrong worship

Amos 5:18-27

Around 700 BC, the Israelites waited for the Day of the Lord to save them, but the prophet Amos said that the Day of the Lord was a day of judgment and darkness. It is a day that no one can escape and everyone will perish. God hates the religious festivals held by the Israelites. He rejects the mere formal sacrifices of those who do not practice justice and righteousness. God takes the Israelites, who carry idols, into captivity.

God does not accept worship from those who do not practice love and justice (21-24). The Lord will accept our worship when we first turn away from sin, become clean, seek justice according to the requirements of the law, be kind to the weak, and stand on their side. Isn’t the current state of our faith today the image of the Israelites who only go in and out of the chapel door but do not seek and seek the Lord’s will?

God destroys false hopes and illusions about the ‘Day of the Lord’ (18-20). The Israelites did not know that their sins were also subject to judgment. There is no such thing as salvation for granted. If you interpret the Word the way you want to hear it, you will not be able to hear God's voice properly. Don’t we have a tendency to take salvation and blessings too much for granted? Salvation and blessings are given to us when we sincerely repent and obey the word of God.

Dear Lord, restore in us authentic worship so our hearts may belong only to You.

사랑하는 주님, 우리 마음이 오직 당신께만 속하도록 우리 안에 참된 예배를 회복시켜 주십시오.
