God is listening
God is listening
Jeremiah 51:33-44
When the people of Zion, the residents of Jerusalem tell God about the violence, exploitation, and shame suffered by Babylonia and appeal to God to relieve their injustice, God will not ignore their laments and will prepare a threshing floor to trample Babylonia. God will make Babylonia, who is as fierce as a lion, drunk with alcohol and will be as defenseless as sheep and goats ready to be killed. The whole world will be shocked to see a powerful country like Babylonia fall so cruelly. The idol of Bel, revered as the god who made Babylonia a superpower, will collapse along with the walls of Babylonia.
God listens to the lawsuits of the people of Zion (33-36). God absolutely does not tolerate taking away another person's possessions, dignity, honor, or life by force. In particular, 'unjustly shed blood' (unjust death) will definitely be vindicated (Genesis 4:10 He said to him, "What have you done? Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground; Revelation 18:24 Prophets and saints and the earth The blood of all who were slain was found in the city.) As God's people, we must also listen to the appeals of those who have been wronged and strive to resolve their injustice.
God punishes the Babylonian god Bel (40-44). Judging injustice is establishing justice. Aren’t we inadvertently living in harmony with the unjust spirit of the times created by worldly power? Let us return to the Word and dream again of God’s kingdom where God’s justice and love are realized.
God, help us be attentive to the voices of those around us that need help with experiencing Your fatherly heart of justice.
