Do not be arrogant, but be humble and sympathetic.

Do not be arrogant, but be humble and sympathetic.

Jeremiah 48:26-35

Israel is a descendant of Abraham, and Moab is a descendant of Lot, Abraham's nephew. Moab's sin, which angered God, mocked Israel and sought to curse Israel through Balaam (Numbers 23). God will make Moab, who was arrogant and rebelled against God, drink the ‘cup of wrath’ and make him drunk and become a subject of ridicule. Because of this, Moab will be driven out and forced to flee to various caves. God is saddened by the judgment of Moab, Israel's neighbor, but He will not stop harsh judgment to remove their idols.

God does not tolerate Moab’s arrogant attitude (verses 26-30). He brings Moab down to the lowest level and makes them face the most shameful situation. What makes me proud? Let us not lose a humble attitude and always speak and act while considering the situation of our neighbors.

God is the one who wails and laments over the destruction of Moab (verses 31-32). God wanted us to bear fruit abundantly, harvest joyfully, and sing joyfully, but God's expectations were always shattered by human desires. In the end, the situation where God has no choice but to withdraw blessings and judge makes God's heart hurt and sad.

Dear God, help us to sympathize with and help our neighbors in trouble with a humble heart.
