Burning Words

Jeremiah 36:20-32

When the servants reported on the words of judgment read by Baruch in the temple, King Jehoiakim had them bring the scroll. When the servant read the words, King Jehoiakim cuts the scroll with a sword and burns it. Not only that, they are trying to eliminate Baruch and Jeremiah, who wrote the words. God hides Jeremiah and Baruch. He then asks Jeremiah to obtain another scroll and write down not only the original contents, but also the severe punishment imposed on King Jehoiakim and the disaster that was certain for Judah.

The word of God cannot be destroyed (22-23, 32). King Jehoiakim burned the words of God to avoid disasters and curses, but the number of words of disasters only increased. Do you see them closing their ears to the Word of God and trying to silence those who preach the Word of God? No matter what, nothing can stop God's word from being fulfilled.

What needs to be torn is not the words, but my heart (23-24). His father, King Josiah, tore his clothes when he heard the words (2 Kings 22:11), but his son, King Jehoiakim, tore the words and burned them. Rather than kneeling before the Word, he tried to kneel those who preached the Word. The results are disastrous (30). If you do not examine yourself through the Word, there is no way to save yourself from falling into self-deception and arrogance and heading towards destruction.

Dear God, bless this day so that it may be lived out according to Your Word.

사랑하는 하나님, 오늘 하루도 말씀대로 살아갈 수 있도록 축복해 주십시오.
