Preach Words Faithfully!
Jeremiah 26:1-15
Jehoiakim was a king who persecuted the prophets and ignored their Words. God orders Jeremiah to go to the temple and proclaim the prophecy that warned about the destruction of the temple and the nation if the king continued disobeying God's law and ignoring the prophet's Words. Instead of repenting, the religious leaders and people who heard Jeremiah's
Words tried to kill him, claiming that he had blasphemed God. However, Jeremiah explains that his prophecy was a word from God, and that if the people of Judah turned to God, God would relent of the disaster.
God spoke through Jeremiah because He desired to see His people turn back to Him (2,3). What God expected when delivering the message of judgment through Jeremiah was for Judah to turn back. God’s earnestness is evident in the Words, “Do not hold back a Word.” Even Words that are harsh to the ears and pierce the heart, we must hear with the heart because they are God's loving appeals.
Religion that loses God becomes violent. When Jeremiah predicted the destruction of the temple to the people of Judah, who had abandoned God and worshiped the temple like an idol, they tried to kill Jeremiah. Look back to see if you are doing things in the name of God that do not please God, such as discrimination, hatred, and exclusion, without being aware of them.
God, who relents disasters when we preach the Word and repent and turn back, may we faithfully preach Your Word and allow those who hear it to repent and turn back!
