When the World Seems Larger than the Word

The theme for January is 'Avoiding the Wreckage of Faith'. The journey of faith is a lot like sailing. Our lives are ever-changing like the rolling waves, but the sailor who listens carefully to the Word of God can sail without getting lost.

1월의 주제는 ‘믿음의 파선에서 벗어나려면’입니다. 믿음의 여정은 항해와도 같습니다. 늘 일렁이는 파도처럼, 우리 삶도 변화무쌍하지만, 주님의 말씀을 경청하는 항해서는 풍랑 속에서도 굳건하게 항해를 이어갈 수 있습니다.

 

□The Word and Sharing

1. Moses reminded the people about their conquest into Canaan at Kadesh-barnea (vv.19~25)

모세가 백성에게 가데스 바네아에서 가나안을 정탐한 일을 상기시킵니다(19~25절).

1)What did Moses say to the people in Kadesh-barnea (v.21)?

가데스 바네아에서 모세는 백성에게 무엇이라고 말했습니까(21절)?

See, the LORD your God has set the land before you. Go up, take possession, as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has told you. Do not fear or be dismayed.’

너희의 하나님 여호와께서 이 땅을 너희 앞에 두셨은즉 너희 조상의 하나님 여호와께서 너희에게 이르신 대로 올라가서 차지하라 두려워하지 말라 주저하지 말라

2) What did the people suggest to Moses (v.22)?

백성은 모세에게 뭐라고 제안했습니까(22절)?

‘Let us send men before us, that they may explore the land for us and bring us word again of the way by which we must go up and the cities into which we shall come.’

우리가 사람을 우리보다 먼저 보내어 우리를 위하여 그 땅을 정탐하고 어느 길로 올라가야 할 것과 어느 성읍으로 들어가야 할 것을 우리에게 알리게 하자

3) What kind of assessment did the spies make about the land of Canaan (v.25)? 정탐꾼들은 가나안 땅을 어떻게 평가했습니까(25절)?

‘It is a good land that the LORD our God is giving us.’

우리의 하나님 여호와께서 우리에게 주시는 땅이 좋더라

 

<Share 1> Moses told the next generation of people who were about to conquer Canaan about the history of the previous generation. Think about the benefits of learning about the history of the church or the lives of the people of faith who have gone before us, and share about a time you gained great insight through such stories.

모세는 가나안 정복을 앞둔 다음 세대에게 이전 세대의 역사를 일깨워줍니다. 우리가 과거 교회의 역사나 신앙 선배들의 삶을 전해들을 때 얻게 되는 유익은 무엇인지 생각해 보고, 실제로 큰 깨달음을 얻었던 경험이 있으면 나눠봅시다.

Good experience: I want to emulate good examples of faith through Pastor Joo Ki-cheol, who is determined not to worship shrines (idol worship), and Pastor Yang-won Son, the atomic bomb of love.

좋은 경험 : 신사참배(우상숭배)하지 않은 일사각오의 주기철 목사님과 사랑의 원자탄 손양원 목사님을 통해 신앙의 좋은 모범을 닮고 싶은 마음을 가집니다.

Bad experience: Through the opportunistic ancestors of faith who worshiped shrines (idol worship) during the Japanese colonial rule, I pledge to keep my faith no matter what difficulties.

안 좋은 경험 : 일제치하에서 신사참배(우상숭배)를 한 기회주의적인 신앙의 선조들을 통해 어떤 어려움에서도 믿음을 지켜야겠다는 다짐을 합니다.

 

2. Moses reminded the people of the time when their ancestors resented God and he persuaded them(vv.26~33).

모세는 백성에게, 조상들이 하나님을 원망한 것과 자신이 그들을 설득한 일을 상기시킵니다(26~33절).

1)What did the Israelites resent God for(v.27)?

이스라엘 백성은 하나님을 향해 뭐라고 원망했습니까(27절)?

Israelites murmured in their tents and said, ‘Because the LORD hated us He has brought us out of the land of Egypt, to give us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.

장막 중에서 원망하여 이르기를 여호와께서 우리를 미워하시므로 아모리 족속의 손에 넘겨 멸하시려고 우리를 애굽 땅에서 인도하여 내셨도다

2) What was the reason the Israelites resented God (v.28)?

이스라엘이 하나님을 원망한 이유는 무엇입니까(28절)?

The people were greater than the Israelites, and their cities were large and their walls reached to the sky. Israel also murmured against God because they saw the descendants of Anakim there.

그 백성은 이스라엘 백성보다 장대하며 그 성읍들은 크고 성곽은 하늘에 닿았으며 이스라엘이 또 거기서 아낙 자손을 보았기 때문에 하나님을 원망했습니다.

3) What was the reason Moses told them not to fear the people of Canaan (vv.30~31)?

모세가 가나안 족속을 두려워하지 말라고 한 이유는 무엇입니까(30~31절)?

The LORD your God, who goes before you, will fight for you, just as he did for you in Egypt, all before your eyes.

Because what happened to you in the wilderness also happened to you, and the Lord your God carried you along the path you walked, as a man carries his son, and brought you to this place.

너희보다 먼저 가시는 너희의 하나님 여호와께서 애굽에서 너희를 위하여 너희 목전에서 모든 일을 행하신 것 같이 이제도 너희를 위하여 싸우실 것이며

광야에서도 너희가 당하였거니와 사람이 자기의 아들을 안는 것 같이 너희의 하나님 여호와께서 너희가 걸어온 길에서 너희를 안으사 이 곳까지 이르게 하셨기 때문에

 

<Share 2> The people of Israel forgot about the grace of God who fought for them in Egypt and in the wilderness, and was caught up in discontentment and resentment. When you forget about God's grace and pour out words of discontentment and resentment, what do you normally complain about?

이스라엘 백성은 이집트와 광야에서 역사하신 하나님의 은혜를 잊고, 금세 불평과 원망에 빠져듭니다. 우리가 은혜를 망각하고 불평과 원망의 말을 쏟을 때는 주로 어떤 일 때문인지 생각해봅시다.

Situation - health problems, financial problems, unemployment, what others say

상황 - 건강문제, 재정문제, 실업, 다른 사람의 말

 

<Share 3> The underlying reason for Israel's fear was because the enemy in front of their eyes looked bigger than God. Think about what posture of faith we need to have when our problems look bigger than God, and we become overcome by fear, and share about your experiences.

이스라엘이 품은 두려움의 근본 원인은 하나님보다 눈앞의 적이 더 크게 보였기 때문입니다. 하나님보다 내가 부딪힌 문제가 더 커 보일 때, 그래서 두려움이 찾아올 때, 우리에게 필요한 자세는 무엇인지 생각해보고, 실제로 경험한 일이 있다면 나눠봅시다.

Even though the fierce dogs in the foreign worker factory dormitory threatened us, God protected us as we moved forward with the shield of faith, trusting in the greater God, and allowed us to study the Bible together.

외국인 근로자 공장 기숙사의 사나운 개가 위협하더라도 더 크신 하나님을 신뢰하며 믿음의 방패를 가지고 나아갈 때 하나님께서 지켜주시고 함께 성경공부 할 수 있도록 하셨습니다.

Lord, let us be saints that remember that You are greater than our problems and help us to be victorious.

주여, 우리의 문제보다 주님이 더 크심을 기억하고 승리하는 성도가 되게 하옵소서.
