Let's restore Sabbath spirituality!
Let's restore Sabbath spirituality!
Jeremiah 17:19-27
The Lord tells Jeremiah to speak the word of the Lord at the gates of the king of Judah, the common people, and the residents of Jerusalem. Do not do anything on the Sabbath day and keep the Sabbath day holy. If you sanctify the Sabbath day and do nothing on the Sabbath day, this city of Jerusalem will stand forever, and people will come from the cities of Judah and from the places around Jerusalem, bringing burnt offerings and offerings of thanksgiving to the temple of the LORD, but they will not obey and will not keep the Sabbath day holy. If you do, He will set fire to the gates and devour the temple of Jerusalem.
God tells us to keep the Sabbath holy by not doing any work on the Sabbath (21,22). On the Sabbath, stop all the acts you do to eat and live, and only pour your life into the act of worshiping God. He says that it is okay to stop working on the Sabbath, against the economic principle that if you stop working, your productivity will decrease, you will not be able to accumulate wealth, and you will be pushed out of the competition. It is the belief that God the Creator will fully take care of and fill the void of the time when I stopped my creative act. The people of Judah did not have this faith. The people of Judah broke the Sabbath because they feared that if they stopped working, they would be pushed out and alienated. Does our faith have the spirituality of this Sabbath? Are you living against the culture of this world, where you are the creator and want to live, completely entrusting the sovereignty of your life saved in Christ to God?
If the Sabbath is broken, fire will consume Jerusalem as planned (27). Because breaking the Sabbath means relying on the great powers, not God, and relying on the money, wisdom, and strength you have. If I do not shed my self-reliance and self-centeredness, the Lord will not recognize any of my achievements.
God, let us stop being the Creator and restore the Sabbath spirituality that entrusts our lives to You!
