Belshazzar king of Babylon fears with trembling limbs
Belshazzar king of Babylon fears with trembling limbs
Daniel 5:1-16
When Belshazzar, king of Babylon, made a feast for a thousand nobles and was drinking wine, he ordered that the gold and silver vessels his father had stolen from the temple in Jerusalem be brought to him. Then a human finger appears and writes on the limestone wall, and the king is startled, his face changes color and his limbs tremble in fear. The king shouts and calls the magicians of Babylon to read and interpret this text, but no one understands this. At this time, the queen appears and introduces Daniel, who is filled with the spirit of the gods, and says that he will read and interpret this text. So the king summons Daniel and promises to make him the third ruler of this country if he reads and interprets this text.
God judges King Belshazzar, who drinks from gold and silver vessels brought from Jerusalem. He allowed the temple to be destroyed and the temple equipment taken away because of the people of Israel's sins, but drinking alcohol with these temple equipment is an act of blasphemy against God. We must live a holy life that fears God who judges sin and avoids sin.
When the king and all are afraid because of the writing on the limestone wall, and when the Babylonian magicians cannot read or interpret the writing, the queen introduces Daniel, who is filled with the Spirit of God, and says that he will read and interpret this writing. When we are filled with the Spirit of God, we can also preach the gospel of peace and salvation to the people of the world who are in fear.
God, help us to live holy lives in the fear of You who judge for iniquity and abstaining from sin! And be filled with Your Spirit to preach the gospel of peace and salvation to the fearful world!
