David seeks God's will
David seeks God's will
2 Samuel 2:1-11
David mourned the deaths of King Saul and his son Jonathan and asked God about his future course. God responds by going up to Hebron, the city of Judah. The people of Judah anointed David king over the people of Judah. David treats good the residents of Jabesh, who will bury King Saul, and tells them to be courageous and not discouraged. Abner made Ishbosheth, Saul's son, king over Israel.
We must always ask God, discern and obey God's will (1). You can live a blessed and prosperous life by properly discerning and obeying God's will through the Word and the Holy Spirit.
We should treat those who do not follow me well. David treated good the residents of Jabesh, where King Saul's funeral was held, in the hopes of blessing them (4-7). That is what a true king looks like as a leader who loves and serves all people.
In order to fulfill his desires, Abner went against God's will and made Saul's son Ishbosheul king (8~10). God's rebuilding of a ruined house is an attitude of fighting against God. ‘New wine must be put in new wineskins’ (Matthew 9:17). Let us examine the thoughts, habits, and practices of faith that we hold on to.
God, help me to know your will in everything, to discern and obey your will! Be kind to those who do not follow me, and be leaders who love and serve all people! Give me away from my vain desires, and the wrong thoughts, habits, and practices of faith that I hold on to so stubbornly!
