The Definition and Ancestors of Faith

Hebrews 11:1-12

The author of Hebrews defines faith as the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen, and explains the ancestors of faith, Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, and Sarah as examples. By faith Abel offered a better sacrifice than Cain, by faith Enoch was moved without seeing death, by faith Noah was warned of things not yet seen and built an ark to save his family, and by faith Abraham was called when He obeyed and went to the land he would inherit as an inheritance, not knowing where he was going. By faith, Sarah was old and unable to conceive (though menstruation was cut off), but she gained the strength to conceive. All of them became the ancestors of the faith.

God is still alive today, and He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.(6) So we must seek the living God even now.

We must trust God's promises and live a life of obedience by faith, following our ancestors who obeyed by faith.

God, I am looking for the God who lives even now. Following our ancestors in faith, let us also trust in God's promises and live a life of obedience by faith!
